PERUVIAN DIETA

What to expect

The Dragon Lineage invites committed seekers to the training ground of our healing practices, our yearly shamanic dieta. This retreat sees participants from all over the world come together to live as the shaman of old did, abstaining from flavor and touch, learning songs the wilderness gave us and imbibing the jungle sip by sip, bark by bark.

This retreat is an opportunity to connect deeply with the powers of nature. Whether your interest lay in having the time and space for energetic refurbishing, healing from identified ailments, continuing (or even starting) your path with vegetal magick or just intensifying your contemplation practices, this retreat offers the ideal conditions for all.

This event is more than a jungle gathering; it is a compendium of experiences, which, if strung together, form the basis of our Lineage training – what each member of the Dragon Team itself went through to let blossom both their capacities as well as their drive to put them into service.

For two weeks to a month each participant will have the jungle to themselves and their own mind also, sitting with the power of Ayahuasca every other day. To accompany this process and lead those who wish to be led we also grant teachings on shamanism, ritual empowerments and training in the healing capacities of sound.

To share our shamanic gifts is our calling. As Shar Khan says, these are both a responsibility and a joy, “for to the mature spirit both conditions feel the same.” So join us this year in our Amazon affair, to listen – to the jungle, to the medicine, to ourselves! For we have not seen anybody to whom these have not yet spoken.

The magick of the wilderness is waiting for you.

VISION

Since 2016 the Dragon Lineage has been guiding patients and students in the medicine path through the ordeal of the traditional amazonian dieta. It is the oldest, most rigorous, and most transformative of all our immersions — the place where the healing work begins to unfold.

Here, under the vast skies of Nauta and the deep humming of the jungle, we return to the root: to learn as the ancients learned, to drink as they drank, to heal as they healed. This is neither a wellness retreat nor an exotic holiday to chase visions: it is an initiatory chamber, a forge for those who would become medicine people in truth, not in name.

Our first priority is to uphold the authentic, traditional shamanic discipline of the forest, without dilution, without concession. The rules here are not arbitrary; they are the sacred geometry through which the Medicine reveals herself. Participants will be placed under a strict dieta, avoiding all stimulation of the outer senses.

There will be long talks on the foundations of shamanism; there will also be periods of silence where not a word is uttered. True austerity is not punishment but purification. This is the way for both the jungle and the medicine to become a mirror of our own being, and in that light find the root invisible.

Shar Khan designed this retreat in the same mold by which himself was trained. Every element — from the silence to the chanting, from the medicine to the diet — follows the precise guidance of the lineages of Shipibo and Mestizo vegetalism. It is the most traditional of all retreats, for here the jungle is the teacher.

And what greater privilege is there, than to be taught by the Earth herself?

Training

This pilgrimage offers an opportunity to immerse oneself in the practices of meditation and devotion framed by the four main spiritual currents of Asia – Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Islam. Our goal is not to syncretize them, but to understand their unity in direct experience.

Pilgrims will be introduced to the Japan of the Hindus, the zikr of the Sufis, the Shabda of the Sikhs and the mantras of the Buddhist. Each will receive a manual authored by Shar Khan containing the complete set of exercises, prayers, and meditations that we’ll explore in this adventure.

Regardless of what spiritual framework we are practicing under, all disciplines aim for the alignment of body, voice, and mind. Every tradition revolves around foundational practices of the dignity of posture, control of the breath, stabilization of the attention and the flow of sound in sacred names.

Every tradition has its own grammatical taxonomy to speak of these. In both Hinduism and Buddhism we speak of these elements as āsana, prāṇāyāma, dhyāna, and mantra. The confluence of these four is what we call tantra – so beware of interpreting this term in the light of western sexual fixations.

Our emphasis is not on performing yoga as a physical art, but on living yoga as a spiritual state. We respect the pace of each, for some will be inspired to bring this newfound peace back to their lives, whereas those seeking formal training will find in this retreat the same rigor that Shar Khan himself received in his formative years.

Schedule

DAY 1

Arrival in Iquitos

Pick up at the airport and transfer to our accommodation in Iquitos. We will meet at our hotel to introduce each other and set the guidelines for the retreat.
DAY 2

Drive to Nauta

We will then drive as a group on a bus to Nauta, seventy kilometers south of Iquitos. Once arrived there we will each take our belongings to the cabins in which we will stay for a month.
DAY 3

Dieta Begins

We will enjoy the last day of flavored food and physical touch before gathering at night under the Maloca for our first ceremony.

Training

The trainings of this retreat revolve around the idea of dieta. This word meant for the Ancient Greeks the same it means for the native Amazonians: a way of life. For us, to diet does not mean to exclude some things from our palate. Quite the contrary, it means to only accept a thin warp of experiences.

To understand how exactly the dieta works only experience will suffice, but the conditions can be listed. We will be eating only plain rice, plantain and fish for the ten days of each two-week period, avoiding any of the five flavors. We will reject any chemical elements like shampoo or even toothpaste to enter the state of the shamen of old.

We will also be dieting a Master Plant. This means that each person will be given a particular infusion from a tree to drink and learn from. To help this process we will give up on physical touch, as we will also go through periods of absolute silence. Fundamentally, however, shamanic dieta revolves around our Ayahuasca ceremonies.

This retreat can be taken as a healing journey or as a training ground; the balance depends on each individual. Ultimately, spiritual growth is defined by being able to take an honest look into our own process. There is no other training, and by recognizing this the distinction between healing ourselves and healing others begins to blur.

Though in our ceremonies we find the waters through which we’ll move, the keel of our purpose depends on the complementary practices. We shall also hold private and public integration processes, vocal and instrumental training, mud baths, walks through the jungle, daily meditation sessions and teachings according to the level and interest of the group.

DAY 4-13

First Dieta

From here on every other day we have an Ayahuasca ceremony, with the rest days being dedicated to sound healing activities either in group or in solitude. Each dieta has six ceremonies in total.
DAY 14-15

Rest Days

These days we will break dieta and eat flavored food moderately. We can use this time to decompress from solitude and integrate new members of the retreat into our circle.
DAY 16-26

Second Dieta

We resume our isolation here, perhaps with a renewed enthusiasm. Just like before, we will have six Ayahuasca ceremonies in total, one every other day.
DAY 27-28

Decompressing

After finishing our second dieta we will go back to simple flavored food and remain within the reach of the jungle to respect the process of integration before coming out into the world again.

Lineage Team

This retreat is led by Shar Khan, founder of the Dragon Lineage and initiator of its living current. Trained across many disciplines, he brings to healing work not merely the accumulated knowledge of traditions but the living fire that unites them. His task is not to teach, but to confirm the teachings that nature has conferred.

Supporting him is Sara, the Seer, whose clairvoyant insight guides the subtle dimensions of the work. She is the intuitive mirror of the group, perceiving what moves unseen and tending to those in the midst of profound internal trances. Her gift is that of spiritual translation: she reads what others feel but cannot name and through her presence clarity is born.

Alongside them is Laura, the Sound Healer, whose work with voice and instrument helps to shape the invisible architecture of all ceremonies. Through her songs and vibrations, the jungle itself seems to breathe, harmonizing the medicines within and around us. She is a teacher of arts also, flowing in colors both melodic and vibrant.

At times, Dragon Lineage apprentices will also be present — students of the path who, having undergone the strict disciplines of the retreats, now assist in service. Their task is not to instruct, but to hold, to clean, to prepare, and to protect the ceremonial space. In this way they learn what every mystic must learn first: humility.

Together, this team forms a balanced mandala of purpose, vision and sound through which the work of transformation unfolds. The Medicine acts through many channels, but always through those who stand empty, devoted, and awake. These are the channels by which her work flows in this retreat.

Acomodations

Throughout our stay in Peru we will be hosted in the Psychonauta Lodge, situated on the outskirts of Nauta, where the Ucayali and Marañón rivers converge to form the Amazon. The lodge stands on a quiet patch of forest, surrounded by towering palms and the slow murmur of water — a place where the jungle begins to dream.

The Psychonauta Lodge is a traditional ayahuasca center, built with care for both safety and authenticity. It has many cabins, some of greater isolation than others. To accommodate the needs and care of each participant we offer both private cabins or shared cabins for a discounted price.

Simple comfort is not opposed to our purpose, and Pyschonauta has arguably some of the most comfortable spaces of any retreat center in the Amazon. Everyone will have a comfortable bed, a hammock and plenty of room for private practice or reflection. The walls are made of mosquito nets to keep the bugs out and the air breezy.

Everyone in the lodge will have access to wi-fi. The showers and toilets are shared, with running water sourced from the nearby stream and filtered for use. Meals are taken communally in the dining space, and we have to our disposal not only the temple space but also a small dojo and the dining hall that acts also as communal hub.

The lodge has ample paths that cut the jungle through which one can access silence and to the unseen world. The fauna in this area is less diverse than in other, lower regions, but there is a great range of singing-birds that shall accompany our process. It is also not unheard of people catching a glimpse of wild monkeys, so keep an eye out!

Necessities

This journey is not a vacation but a spiritual retreat that will challenge you both physically and mentally. Here’s what you should bring and be aware of:

A clear and pure intention is the most important thing to bring to this journey. Be certain that you will be challenged and take acceptance for a growth.

Spiritual Intention

Modest Clothing

Pack comfortable, modest clothing. Washing machines are scarce in the jungle and laundry sometimes depend on both water and sun, so you will have to use whatever is clean.

Packing Essentials

Bring a water bottle, comfortable shoes, a sun-cap as well as sunscreen, a journal for reflection and a yoga mat for sitting on the floor.

Temple Rules

In order to keep safety and insure no one accidents themselves after a rite, we ask that all participants sleep in the Maloka after ceremonies.

Phone Use

To avoid distractions from our journey we will have someone in the group responsible for framing our memories so that we can all minimize screen use.

Group Dynamics

Though everyone will have solo time to ponder freely, we expect people to accept each other’s company. Please be mindful to always respect people’s space and idiosyncrasies.

Integration

The journey does not end when the fire dies or the circle closes. Every retreat is a threshold, a passage into deeper awareness that continues to unfold long after our return home. True transformation takes root in the quiet days that follow, when visions settle into the heart and the body learns to carry this new light.

To support this continuity, we offer integration sessions, both in-person and online, where participants can revisit the teachings they gained from these experiences with guidance and clarity. These gatherings both public and private serve as bridges between worlds, a space to weave the insights of ceremony into daily life.

Those who wish to walk further may enter a path of ongoing mentorship or join the sessions we hold for the Dragon Lineage community, where fellow travelers share reflections, practices, and support each other as the work deepens. Anybody wishing to pursue this path should commit not only to retreats but also to their grounding.

Whether we dive into the integration period alone or accompanied, how we deal with coming “back to earth” seals the teachings we recieved. Such is why we ask of people not to book any other retreats or pilgrimages until the one they’re currently integrating has seeped into their habits.

We encourage all to honor their growth with daily journaling, periods of silence, and the application of whatever prayers or meditations they have learnt from this retreat. These practices help refine the energy awakened and drive wisdom into crystallization, for integration is the means by which we uphold the teachings.

Testimonies

I approached this experience with complete openness and curiosity, like an innocent child. I did not make a mistake! On the contrary! The energy I reclaimed, which had been scattered into many pieces in different directions, continues to sustain me. I would practice this experience at least two or three times a year”.
